A Journey's Start: Foundations in Literature and History is an anthology of literary and historical works that will provide students with a firm foundation for a serious study of the humanities in high school. Like the preceding books of the same series (Vice and Virtue), the adapted, excerpted or original works will expose students to classic authors and their literary works, such as Shakespeare's Hamlet, William Blake's Songs of Innocence and Experience, Alfred Tennyson's Enoch Arden, and Charles Lamb's rendition of Homer's Odyssey. The history texts, also adapted, will provide students with interesting reading material that cannot be found in most textbooks, such as anecdotes of Washington and Lincoln, and General Lee's recollections of his father. The reader is supported by a study guide which is available separately.
