Instead, the publisher went to Studio Nue, the legendary design studio behind Macross and Orguss, to create all-new versions of the familiar Battletech mechs. The result was a range of new designs by Shoji Kawamori (of Macross fame, ironically enough).
The Japanese edition came in a cardboard slipcase and featured a rulebook, "four" sheets (really two large sheets folded in half) of cardboard counters, and two hex maps.
