COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the Supporting Individuals with Asthma in Disability Care course. This program is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge to provide effective care for individuals living with asthma. Asthma is a common chronic respiratory condition that can significantly impact daily life, particularly for individuals in disability care settings. This course aims to ensure you are prepared to support participants in managing their asthma, maintaining their health, and responding to emergencies with confidence.

Understanding the respiratory system is a foundational step in asthma care. You will learn about the structure and function of the respiratory system, the role of airways in breathing, and how asthma affects normal respiratory processes. This knowledge will enable you to recognise and address the unique challenges asthma presents for participants in your care.

Asthma can be triggered by various causes and manifests in diverse ways. This section will cover the common causes and triggers of asthma, its symptoms, and the long-term health impacts of unmanaged asthma. Recognising these factors is critical for tailoring care to each participant's needs.

Different types of asthma require varied management approaches. You will explore classifications such as mild, moderate, and severe asthma, as well as specialised types like occupational, exercise-induced, and nocturnal asthma. Understanding these distinctions helps in adapting care strategies for individual participants.

Effective asthma management relies on the correct use of medications and devices. This section will provide an overview of asthma medications, including relievers, preventers, and controllers, and guide you in the proper use of inhalers, spacers, and nebulisers. You will also learn to monitor and adjust management plans in collaboration with healthcare providers.

Emergencies such as asthma attacks require immediate and informed responses. This section will teach you how to recognise the signs of an attack, provide immediate support, and know when to contact emergency services. These skills are critical for ensuring participant safety in high-pressure situations.

Legal considerations and compliance with standards are integral to professional care. You will gain an understanding of your duty of care in asthma management, adherence to NDIS and healthcare standards, and the importance of accurate documentation and reporting.

Asthma triggers vary between individuals and environments. This section will help you identify common triggers, implement strategies to minimise exposure, and collaborate with participants to address their personal triggers, reducing the risk of asthma episodes.

Developing and implementing asthma action plans is essential for effective care. You will learn about the components of these plans, how to work with healthcare providers to create them, and methods for educating participants and their families on their use.

Managing asthma in children and elderly participants presents unique challenges. This section will guide you in adapting care plans to developmental and physical needs, addressing age-related concerns, and supporting these populations effectively.

The emotional and psychological impact of asthma is significant for many participants. You will explore strategies for addressing anxiety and stress, encouraging participants to manage their condition independently, and providing emotional support to families and caregivers.

Cultural sensitivity is vital in asthma care. This section will cover how to understand and respect cultural perspectives on asthma, adapt management practices to align with participant beliefs, and foster trust through inclusive and respectful communication.

Respiratory hygiene and infection control are essential to preventing complications. You will learn techniques for maintaining hygiene when using respiratory equipment, preventing respiratory infections, and educating participants on proper practices to protect their health.

Physical activity is important for overall health, even for individuals with asthma. This section will explore ways to encourage safe exercise, manage exercise-induced asthma episodes, and modify activities to suit individual needs and capabilities.

Monitoring and documenting asthma care ensures that management plans remain effective. You will learn how to record symptoms, medication use, and trends in asthma control, using this information to update and improve care plans.

Asthma often coexists with other conditions, which can complicate management. You will gain insights into recognising and addressing comorbidities, coordinating care for participants with multiple health issues, and adjusting asthma plans for complex cases.

Emergency preparedness is critical for severe asthma episodes. This section will equip you to recognise life-threatening symptoms, administer emergency medications, and communicate effectively with emergency responders to safeguard participant well-being.

Finally, evaluating and improving asthma care outcomes ensures continuous improvement. You will learn how to review management plans, gather feedback from participants and families, and collaborate with healthcare teams to enhance care quality and effectiveness.

By the end of this course, you will be well-prepared to support individuals with asthma in disability care, ensuring their safety, health, and quality of life while adhering to professional and regulatory standards.

Each section is complemented with examples to illustrate the concepts and techniques discussed.

Great Functionality a bit light weight tho!
Color: Black
It’s def functional. It looks nice and is not an eye sore. Def will be easy to maintain for cleaning of dust. HOWEVER, four stars simply cause it is a bit top heavy. I will have to find a solution to weight it down so it’s not so top heavy. Possibly in the future they might design a simple one like this with a simple one pound weight across the bottom. Outside of that tiny little issue…a pretty solid simple compact remote holder that functions. Need I say it is Not an eye sore sitting on th coffee table. That was also a winner n my book.

Minimalist Must-Have.
Color: Black, Color: Black
I recently purchased this faux leather remote control holder, and I couldn’t be more impressed. The design is sleek and minimalist, making it a perfect addition to any modern living room. Its elegant finish gives the impression of genuine leather, yet it comes at an excellent price point that makes it accessible without sacrificing style. The craftsmanship is solid, with clean stitching and a sturdy structure that keeps remotes neatly organized. It’s not only functional but also adds a touch of sophistication to the space. For anyone looking to declutter their coffee table while maintaining a refined aesthetic, this product is a fantastic choice. Overall, it combines practicality, elegance, and affordability in a way that’s hard to beat. Highly recommended!

Fits a Voice Roku perfectly! Aligned and snug. Impressive.
Color: Purple Glow
So I grabbed the Purple Glow. Some of the pictures threw me off. And I realize now those partially translucent pics are to show you how it fits. ::face palm:: I was surprised at how well this fits and it makes the remote bigger so for my med-large hands it is great. I was surprised how I liked the fit. Now at first I thought I was sent the Lilac Purple. Because mine was not glowing at all after sitting in my living room for a few hours. I took a HIGH lumen LED light and shined it on one side and went into the closet and it glowed-ish. So irradiated the thing and then it glowed pretty well. I have seen items like this that whatever is used to make things glow fade over time. I wish there was a manufacturer date on these. I know they can make the unit and print out a new sticker. So you just never know. I sent it back for an exchange. I do want it to glow. So we will see. However, if it does not glow I will keep it. Since it is the best fitting and easy to take remote out to change battery. I have had floppy covers (so useless) and super snug ones that fit perfectly but for me were a pain to on and peel off.
