Johann Knapp (1778-1833) war Kammermaler am österreichischen Hof und dokumentierte am Beginn des 19. Jh. die botanischen Bestände der kaiserlichen Gärten und Gewächshäuser. Er schuf mit den präzisen Tafelbildern, auf denen Früchte und Blumen von einheimischen sowie von exotischen Pflanzen dargestellt sind, ein umfangreiches Werk, dass nach seinem Tod von seinem Sohn Joseph (1810-1867) weitergeführt wurde.
