Kein Geringerer als Sowjetführer A.N. Kossygin hatte 1970 den Anstoß gegeben, einen Geländewagen für die Dorfbewohner zu entwickeln. 1976 schlug die Geburtsstunde des Lada Niva, des ersten Geländewagen mit selbsttragender Karosserie. Die Sowjetunion ist untergegangen, aber der NIVA lebt und wird bis heute in alle Welt exportiert.
