Nähe zu anderen Gemeinschaften schränkt dich in der Ausbreitung ein, bringt dir aber Vorteile im Spiel. Dieses Spannungsverhältnis macht einen großen Teil des Reizes der Terra Mystica-Reihe aus. Age of Innovation bietet einen modularen Aufbau der Gemeinschaften sowie eine variable Verteilung der Spielkomponenten für noch mehr Abwechslung.
