Ihre raumgroßen Tableaus, in denen sie historische Begebenheiten nacherzählt, die geprägt sind von Sexualität, Gewalt und Unterwerfung, fanden in den letzten Jahren international große Anerkennung. Die US-Amerikanerin bedient sich dabei des Scherenschnitts, also einer ursprünglich großbürgerlichen Technik des 18. Jahrhunderts. Im Laufe der Jahre hat sie für ihre Arbeiten die Medien Zeichnung, Malerei, Farblichtprojektion, Schrift, Schattenspiel und jüngst auch den Animationsfilm benutzt.Der außergewöhnlich gestaltete Band stellt interessante Aufsätze zu Kara Walkers Werk zusammen. Zudem bietet er einen illustrierten Katalog wiederkehrender Motive und Themen in ihren bedeutendsten Installationen. Die Künstlerin hat selbst einen 36-seitigen »Visual Essay« für das Buch gestaltet.

Very Broad Overview. A Little Disorderly
Format: Paperback
I liked the book. It's a very broad overview of the major time periods of Ancient Greece, concluding w/ Rome's conquest. It feels too short to convey all the information in a really meaningful fashion and sometimes the order the information is presented in seems a little disjointed. All in all, I felt like it was a good read and would recommend it to others seeking an introduction into the basic outline of the timeline and introduction to many of the major players.

I absolutely LOVED this book! There is a thoughtful process to how it it laid out, while giving you the interesting bits of history - the ones that really made a difference.
Greece was a civilization unto itself, and the accomplishments that were undertaken were massive. From buildings, to history, philosophy, conquests and so much more - there is something for everyone in this book!
