OVERVIEW

Developedin Margaret River, Australia, by our congenial design duo Diethelm and Fabio Canella, this sail has met the highest expectations of our riders right from the start.

The 4Wave offers a rather unique concept of innovative backhand power control. By defining the sail profile with a special material mix—from soft Dacron in the front to the stiffest X-Ply in the rear of the sail—we were able to reduce the twist of the sail body above the boom in a positive way, giving you that little bit of extra power whenever you need it. The key to the 4Wave's outstanding efficiency is the wide outline in the middle of the sail with a standard boom length. The panel above the boom receives the cleanest airflow, allowing the wide panel to generate drive and power, while the narrow top ensures easy clew handling. The powerful low-end acceleration of this sail can easily outperform larger sails. To get the full experience, you should ride your 4Wave smaller than you normally would: With a pull on the backhand, you can unleash the power at any time, while benefiting from faster rotations, more radical turns, and, last but not least, better wipeout resistance of a smaller sail in big waves.

CONSTRUCTION

Whichmaterial to use and where to use it was one of the most important considerations in the development of our Wave series. Instead of increasing the shape of the panels (which puts additional strain on the seams and limits the range of use), we decided to play around with sail materials and carefully select the right thickness for each area. From the mast to the clew, we used soft Dacron for the luff panel, then 2 MIL x/scrim ply for the front/upper part and 4 MIL x/scrim ply for the base. All panels along the leech are made of thicker 5 MIL x/warp ply. This mix helps the wind blow the sail exactly where you want the power to be and prevents the draft from decreasing when conditions get stronger.
As a finishing touch, we developed our own Kevlar load distribution lines. They connect the clew, the top, and the two innovative mini battens on the luff panel. The secret to the incredible wind range lies (also) here...
Last but not least, we focused on providing you with a sail that is as light as possible, yet capable of withstanding some big wipeouts and lasting for years. That is our true approach to sustainability.

TRIM

_d-id="33359">Das 4Wave offers an extended trim range on both the luff and leech.
First, set your preferred luff to determine the amount of slack leech you like best. Less luff for a freestyle/wave baggy feel and a more open leech for down-the-line sailing and jumping in strong winds. Then mainly use your clew to set the desired amount of profile, power, and drive.

Once you get used to this very new approach to a super-smooth power wave sail, the 4Wave will be the only sail you'll ever need.
