VINNARE AV ÅRETS ROMAN I STORYTEL AWARDS 2024

Året är 1949 och Betty fyller 30 år. Födelsedagen firar hon tryggt tillsammans med man, barn, släkt och vänner. Äktenskapet med Olof bygger på förtrolighet och vänskap, tillsammans har de fått sonen Anders. Betty arbetar i sin bokhandel, sköter Småtrycksförlaget och har huvudansvaret för hushållet. Hon bestämmer sig dessutom för att ta körkort.

Men under ytan är allt inte lika bekymmersfritt. Betty känner sig ofta otillräcklig och har dåligt samvete för att hon inte hälsar på oftare hos modern i Hudiksvall. Olof börjar dra sig undan och Betty saknar deras gemenskap. Dottern Martina spås en lysande framtid som sångerska och när hennes biologiske far, Martin Fischer, vill ta upp kontakten med henne blir Betty djupt orolig. Samtidigt hopar sig de ekonomiska bekymren och när Betty dessutom blir osams med bästa väninnan Viola är inget längre som det varit.
